EFCC arraigns fishermen for fishing in unauthorized waters

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday September 24th arraigned six fishermen Adekunle Oshingbosi; Momodu Ibrahim; IdowuTuesday; Togbosi Christian; Benjamin Eyinle; Anthony Medoho, and their company, Oshine Resources Ventures Limited before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly fishing in unauthorized waters. According to the EFCC, the men were arrested onMarch 27thby officers of the Nigerian Navy for fishing in Nigerian territorial waters without getting authorized approval thereby violating Sections 1(1)(2) of the Seas Fishery Act Cap S4, 2004. When the 2 count charge of conspiracy and stealing was read to the men, they pleaded not guilty and applied for bail through their counsel. The presiding Judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba granted them bail in the sum of N10 million each with one surety in like sum each, who is to produce two recent passport photographs. They were remanded at the Ikoyi prisons pending when they meet their bail conditions.

Panic in Liberian villages as two Ebola victims 'rise from the dead'

There's currently panic, fear and confusion in two villages in Nimba County in Liberia after reports that two female Ebola victims have risen from the dead. According to local reports, 44 year old Dorris Quoi who lived in Hope Village Community and a 67 year old woman identified as Ma Kebeh, died of the Ebola virus and were about to be taken for burial when they resurrected and are now walking among the living. According to reports in a local newspaper, New Dawn, Ma Kebeh had been indoors for two nights without food and medication before her death, while Dorris had suffered for several weeks before she died alone in her family home. This is the first report of dead Ebola victims resurrecting. Despite some people's reservations about the story being true, it hasn't stopped them from panicking

Senate approves GEJ's $1billion loan to fight Boko Haram

The Senate has approved the $1billion (N165bn) loan requested by President Jonathan in July to help in the fight against terrorism and tackle insecurity in the country. The loan would be used for the purchase of military equipment and the training of military personnel. The loan approved will be in addition to the N968.127bn voted for Defence in the 2014 budget by the federal government.

Ebola death toll rises to at least 2,296: WHO

The death toll from the worst Ebola outbreak in history has risen to at least 2,296 out of 4,293 cases in five West African countries, the World Health Organization said today Tuesday September 9th. The death toll, according to WHO, jumped by almost 200 in a single day and the figure was as of September 6th. WHO also said it did not have new figures for Liberia, the worst-affected country so far, suggesting the real number is higher than 2,296 "We know that the numbers are under-estimated. We are currently working to estimate the under-estimation. It’s a war against this virus. It’s a very difficult war. Boko Haram – Warning Letter To Abuja Barracks

According to The Eagle Online, a senior officer said that the letter was the third received from the terrorists this year. The letter was reportedly sent to the barracks to warn the residents that they would soon be attacked by the sect. The senior officer, who resides in the barracks, also allegedly said that the letter was not being taken lightly due to the recent attack on the police training academy in Gwoza, Borno State. However, The Eagle Online reports that another officer living in the barracks denied the receipt of the letter. He reportedly said: “We did not receive any letter! What we got is an intelligence report that they would be coming to attack our barrack. Yes, this is the third time we’re getting this intelligence report and we’re not toying with it and especially not after the attack on mobile police training school at Gwoza.” “Every person, including senior police officers and their cars are subject to intense search,” said another resident. “We don’t know if the attack would be frontal or through use of a suicide bomber.
